What is a sugar ant?

Sugar ant is an ant species attracted to sweets. They can be found in many places, including kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas where food or sweets may be present.

These sweet-eating ants may get their moniker because they love sugar, but the term “sugar ant” is often given to many other ant species. The scientific name for those found in Texas is Monomorium pharaonis, more commonly called Pharaoh ants. Unfortunately, these ants are harder to get rid of than others.

If you see them in your home, it is crucial to take steps to get rid of them as soon as possible. Failure to do so could lead to an infestation.

How can you identify Them?

Sugar ants are usually red or light tan in color. Sugar ants range from about 1/12 to 1/16 of an inch in size, making them smaller than many other insects. And, unlike some other ants, the sugar ant does not have a stinger.

Are they dangerous to people?

Many people wonder if a sugar ant bites. They are generally not aggressive, but they can use their mouthparts to bite if disturbed. Sugar ant bites do not cause any pain or symptoms unless the individual is severely allergic.

However, a sugar ant can contaminate food and other surfaces with feces, which can harbor bacteria, so it is best to avoid letting them in your house.

Where do you find sugar ants?

Sugar ants live in a variety of places in the home. They can be found in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas where food or a water supply is present.

They will most likely be in your kitchen, especially if you have a lot of sugary foods not stored away correctly. However, a sugar ant nest is usually found in walls, under floors, and in other dark places.

As we mentioned, killing a sugar ant can be difficult once they’ve established themselves in your home, so it’s a good idea to take steps to prevent them from getting inside in the first place.

How do you prevent a sugar ant infestation?

Sugar ants seek out any food source, so keeping your home clean and your counters and sinks free of dirty dishes and crumbs is the best way to prevent an infestation.

Keep your property free of debris and plumbing leaks, as the ants are drawn to cool, damp surroundings. Be sure to seal any cracks or holes where a sugar ant might enter your home.

If you live in an area where sugar ants are common, it is crucial to prevent them from entering your home. Taking these simple steps can help you keep your home free of these pesky pests.

Is it hard to get rid of sugar ants?

There are many different ways to eliminate sugar ants, but the most effective way usually involves using a combination of methods.

Ant bait with sweet gels can help reduce their numbers, but most sugar ants won’t disappear that easily. However, the experience of our professional pest control services will help completely rid them from your home.
